2010 Yushu Earthquake

Yushu Earthquake occurred in the southern part of China's Qinghai Province on April 14 with the registered magnitude of 6.9M. According to the Chinese Official and Xinhua News Agency, 2,183 people have been confirmed dead, 84 missing, and 12,135 injured of which 1,434 are severely injured. The earthquake happened on the upper town of Yushu County near the border of Tibet Autonomous Region. Many wooden buildings in the area has been heavily damaged, 70% of school in the area were also been destroyed and many students were trapped in there. About 15,000 bungalows were break apart after the Earthquake. Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao flew to the quake area from Beijing to command the rescue operation as well as Chinese President Hu Jintao cut off his visits to Chile and Venezuela and came to Yushu County. The earthquake was preceded by a fore shock and followed by several aftershocks, four above magnitude 5 and at a 4 km (2.5 mi) depth on April 14. Right after the Earthquake occurred, Chinese People's Liberation Army Qinghai Branch has send over 3700 soldiers to Yushu and rescue these people who were trapped inside the ruins, many local monks were also helping the rescues along with the armies. The central government has donate over 10 million Yuan to Qinghai Pronive as well as Hong Kong SAR. Taiwan has also send a rescue team to Qinghai Province. Other nation's Red Cross such as United State has donate over 50 thousand US dollar to Yushu. The Chinese Government has declared April 21 the national day of mourning, same as the 512 of Sichuan Earthquake in 2008. On that day, All governmental places (Include HK and Macao), Tiananmen Square and oversea embassy/consulates were lowering the Chinese flag. All major Chinese website such as Sina and Tencent's interface became black and white and entertainment were shutdown. All bars and cinemas were closed for one day. This Earthquake has cost total financial lost of 679 million Chinese Yuan.
